learning more about national conventions I just want to know What important document is drawn-up at a convention and what is that document s purpose? If someone who truly knows this answer would respond I would appreciate the help!

You’re talking about national political conventions, I assume. That document would be the party’s official platform. The platform states what political positions the party officially endorses.

Individual candidates, however, are in no way bound to agree with or abide by the platform.

In practice, the platform is mostly propaganda designed to lure voters into the party. For example, the Republican Party platform still claims to favor small and limited government and low taxes. That has to be a joke. Except for Ron Paul, the GOP is overrun with proponents of large and powerful government.
