In February 2010, the group Tea Party Nation organized the first Tea Party Convention in Nashville, TN, a for-profit event. Some 600 people paid $550 to attend, and Sarah Palin was reportedly paid $115,000 to the be the keynote speaker. After criticism of the convention’s cost, for-profit status, and payment to Palin, multiple national Tea Party organizations withdrew their participation.
But the event went on.
And so did the paranoid, conspiratorial assertions–that President Obama was born in another country, that he has covered up his college transcripts, that he is pushing a communist/socialist agenda, that he is protecting terrorists and endangering our country, etc.
The organizers of the convention made great efforts to limit access to the press, and even held “new-media training” sessions to help the Tea Partiers sound and look better on camera–the more people see inside this movement, the less like it. But we got ourselves into the event, where the right-wing, fringe sentiments were on plain display.
That said, these Tea Partiers–able to pay the cost of attendance–are more affluent than those at the 9.12 DC March, and more self-conscious of they are portrayed in the media. There were fewer signs and homemade t-shirts here, but the attitudes, if more subtle in delivery, were the same.

*LOL* And college transcripts?
“By definition, socialism is not American.” Yep, right in the constutiontion, huh? Who signed your unemployment check? Your social security or Medicare check?
“Common sense out of simple things.” Yep, learn to NOT read.
“We need a commander in chief, not a law professor.” Ignorance IS bliss!

The idea of small …
The idea of small gov’t is a misperception. Gov’t grew more under conservatives who claimed to be small gov’t advocates. For example gov’t grew under both Bush & Regan. The privatization of gov’t services did not make gov’t smaller or cheaper. It did, however, make big profits for business. Also, our economy depends on business directly or indirectly selling goods and services to the gov’t. Without it, the economy would shrink. What the small gov’t advocates really want is cost-effective gov’t.

Unfortunately far …
Unfortunately far too many conservative politicians & the political want-to-bees hide behind patriotism, freedom and a false understanding of the Constitution. Rather than offer solid solutions to our nation’s problems they give us patriotic campaign slogan coverall answer that takes a gilt-trip on our loyalty. In the 2010 mid-term elections, everyone please do not let them get away with this. Demand a solution to the issues at hand & not accept a campaign slogan instead of solutions.

We recently had a …
We recently had a silent revolution. Welcome my son, welcome to the United States of Goldman Sachs & Peers. With so many Goldman Sachs former employees on past & current presidential cabinets, & with most of the wealth & half the retail sales generated by only the 10.5% of the taxpayers, they figured that the fastest way to fix the economy is to make the top 10% wealthier sooner. Which appears to be what was done in 2008-9. On the other hand, 90% of the other taxpayers continue to suffer.

Of course there’s …
Of course there’s more. Profit was to be made & greed set in. The consumer, the bank, appraisers, real estate agents, developers of newly constructed subdivsions, rennovations were to be made on existing homes, cities collected more taxes — all drove the price so high no one could afford it any longer. We all had to have our mini mansions. Let us know when you find your magic 1 thing that created this mess. We saw it coming & sold our mortgaged home in CT & bought a smaller one for cash in FA.

Exactly. President …
Exactly. President Obama is our PRESIDENT. I can’t express how disrespectful it is to say that the President of the United States of America isn’t American. Republicans are so stupid. The IRS building plane crash yesterday was one example of what Conservatism and Fox News does to a person. Hypocrites. I hate especially how Palin uses rhetorical devices by bringing children in her speeches. How pathetic is that. God help this country come November. America don’t make the same mistake 8 years ago!

Please don’t take that as argument, I’m just trying to understand.
This may be a part of problem but I don’t think it is the cause and I’m not even sure if it was the main cause. I understand supply and demand but I just don’t see boomers & Xers driving the demand to cause such high housing prices. I think there had to be more. I think the CRA had an impact as well. The dollar also dropped during Bush’s presidency.

Economics 101. …
Economics 101. Combo of Boomer & X gens = largest-ever home building expansion. Now remove 40% of the population (the Boomers) & you have a serious vacant housing crisis coming when the X & Y geners cannot consume all the housing built. The process began to fall in 2005 when some 62 year old Boomers began to retire early & the X geners at 30+ entered the beginning of their prime housing purchasing period. High prices & big volume vs. lower income & fewer buyers = crisis. Speculators didn’t help.

I thought the the flag at the”RALLY” as you call it was white with a burning cross on it. I’m sure the flag will go well with your white conical hats. It probably will be hanging in every trailer park south of the Mason Dixon Line. Will Sarah be getting a cut in sales?

If Obama really …
If Obama really wanted to prove he was born in America when (and IF) wasn’t by showing us his birth certificate, don’t you think a man with his power could easily just create a fake birth certificate? He’s not showing anybody this because he knows it’s bullshit to question whether he was born in America or not.
