    I feel the …
    I feel the experiment ran aground because the figurehead and the captain left the fiddler at the helm (excuse the excessive imagery), not because it was destined to. Those three creative talents clearly believed they belonged in three different bands, it was maybe that big idea which kept them together long enough to create something special, without it Fotheringay might have been the last Denny/Thompson FP album, and we wouldn’t be having this conversation, I suppose only they know that! (:

    @jet9491 Thank you for your polite and considered reply. I agree it all depends where you’re coming from, if you enjoy the stuff they did before the “very english electro-folk experiment” it’s clear you would have wanted them to continue and develop in a similar vein. I’m a big fan of the handfull of (IMHO) great works they produced at the beginning of that period, which stand up as great music regardless of genre.

    @raysteer We …
    @raysteer We obviously have a difference of opinion on this. Nothing wrong with that! I know, however, that many others share my view. Have a look, for example, at the excellent entry on Fairport Convention on the All Music website.

    @jet9491 Are you …
    @jet9491 Are you surprised that musicians of such talent didn’t want to keep on doing covers and messing around with established genres? After all, this song, Fotheringay, is a precurser of the great work they were to produce for a short period later. As a composition I found “I’ll Keep It With Mine” generic and second rate, I’m glad they moved away from that sort of thing.

    Had the awesome to listen to Fairport Convention live several times and remember a concert in Harlow around 1974 when Sandy was in full flight with Fairport. A voice that will ring down the generations to come and I trust never to be forgotten God Bless you Sandy

    I have really fond memory of this song. As a nipper in the late 60′s my mother was about to spank me for being bold when this song was played on the radio she was so mesmarised that she stoped and just sent me to my room.
    So in the years that followed I have always been just as stung. How right you are such a voice though god rest her she was dead before I was really able to appreciate her

    AMAZING. Overall I like Unhalbricking better, but WWDOOH is brilliant and this is one of Sandy’s best ever songs. Every Fairport album is great in some way, and the debut is too, but Sandy owns my heart:)

    Each to there own!.
    I agree that this is the best of the “classic” ( I hate that word!) lineup,I found just as much pleasure if not more from the later stuff.Richard and Sandy may have left,but they never did a truly bad album!.

    Her voice is just …
    Her voice is just so sensual, low but so intense, one of the greatest folksingers of all time.
    It almost distracts you from Richard Thompson’s fabulous guitar style, which made me want to play in the first place.

    Believe me, this …
    Believe me, this album is the best thing they ever did – every track’s a gem (check out their version of Dylan’s “I’ll Keep It With Mine”) Such a pity that they changed direction so dramatically after ‘Unhalfbricking’.

    Different to the …
    Different to the later Albums but just as good. Fantastically played and brilliantly sung. Great musicians don’t need all the modern day tricks to create superb music.

    This so beautiful song was already a favorite of me on YT , but it was removed .
    So I really hope this posting will have a better fate and survive for a very long time being enjoyed by many ! I guess you know that this song gave it’s name also to a band Fotheringay with Sandy Denny,Trevor Lucas,Jerry Donahue,Gerry Conway and Pat Donaldson as members.
