Shouldn’t DEMOCRATS ONLY PAY REPARATIONS since they fought to keep slavery, Jim Crow Laws, and started the KKK?
February 24th, 2010 | by admin |100 years ago you Democrats were enforcing Jim Crow segregation laws, poll taxes to keep blacks from voting, and riding around in sheets and pointy hats just in case blacks didn’t get the message.
Democrats say "It’s important to have a collective response" because you want to bury the origins, purposes, and historical practices of your own party.
Principled Republicans knowing their history would author a resolution reciting the facts that the Republican Party was formed, among other reasons, to oppose slavery and that the Republican Party and its first President Abraham Lincoln responded to Southern, Democrat-led secession with a successful war that preserved the union and freed the slaves.
After Lincoln’s assassination (by a Democrat), the Republican-led Congress (over the objections of the Democratic Party minority) amended the Constitution to confirm the liberation of the slaves (13th Amendment: slavery abolished), and the 14th Amendment (freed slaves are citizens equal to all citizens) and the 15th Amendment (right to vote guaranteed to freed slaves).
Southern Democrats spent the next 100 years trying to keep freed slaves down with segregation laws, poll taxes to deny the right to vote, and lynching to enforce the social order. The KKK was formed by a Democrat; no Republican has ever been a member of the KKK. This is the heritage of the Democratic Party.
In fact, the Democratic Party was formed in the first place to defend and expand slavery.
In 1840, the very first national nominating convention of the Democratic Party adopted a platform which read in part:
Resolved, That Congress has no power … to interfere with or control the domestic institutions of the several states … that all efforts by abolitionists … made to induce Congress to interfere with questions of slavery … are calculated … to diminish the happiness of the people, and endanger the stability and permanency of the union.
In 1868, the DEMOCRATIC party condemned the Republican Party in its party platform as the "Radical Party," and condemned Reconstruction in these unforgettable words:
Instead of restoring the Union, it (the Radical Party) has dissolved it, and subjected ten states (the former Confederate states) … to military despotism and negro supremacy.

If you think that I, as a former Danish citizen, is going to pay reparations for anyone in the US, you have another thing coming. LMAO
None of the US’s past dealings has anything to do with me.

It was democrats that pushed the Civil Rights Act through congress, and republicans who opposed it including a republican who philibustered for 33 hours if I remember correctly. Thats why Democrats have the support of Black AMericans. Lets not forget most of the republicans viewpoints on the responsibility of goverment runs counter to the concerns of the black community.
As far as reparations go, they are a little too late, but it would be taken as a measure of good will of true apology. However now is not the time for reparations. Especially with the country in the shape its in. Plus the Republicans would try to spin it as Obama being racist if such legislation passed under his administration.

If there were ever reparations given out it would be the "straw that broke the camels back" and a race war would ensue. If actual past slaves were personally given money then ok, but not later gens who want nothing but handouts.
The previous poster talking about the connect between the black community and Dems in Gov was spot on; the black community wants handout after handout from the Gov and Dems luv to give those handouts.

Reparations do not satisfy the spirit, reparations satisfy only vengeance. Investment satisfies the spirit.
Not coincidentally, investment looks forward, rather than back at dead people.

Liberals still rag that our founding fathers held slaves in their possession. It’s OK to go back in time on both Conservatives AND repubies. It’s NOT OK(PC) to go back in time & rag on demmies & liberals.
The liberals still are angered that Gerald Ford pardoned prez Nixon, BUT, excuse Nazi Pelosi in both 2004 & 2007 for not demanding impeachment proceedings against GWB. Go figure!

Lord I wish the Dixiecrats that who broke from the democratic party in the 1950’s and joined the republican thereby effectively switching the two parties politics had chosen a new name.
So, rubes like you would STOP comparing the democratic party of today to the democratic party of the 1860’s.
