Is it safe to walk from the W to the convention center in San Diego?

I have a conference in San Diego in March. I’m staying at the W downtown. Some of the reviews of the hotel say it’s not a safe neighborhood. Is this true? I’ve heard San Diego is really safe.

Also, is it a pretty feasible walk to the convention center? I won’t have a car. I’ll probably be walking back at night some days as well. Thanks!
